Within the energy systems there will be much attention for: Faecal sludge treatment and thermal energy from biogas
The assignment is to develop a sanitation-biogas system for ca. 200 people, the produced gas can be used for locally needed thermal energy. At the same time it will solve part of the problem regarding the organic waste management in the emergency area. Appropriate faecal sludge treatment is very important to avoid groundwater pollution and water born diseases.
Within this task a user guideline will be developed, which guides the user step-by –step in construction and operation and maintenance of the different add-ons. A training module will accompany this. It also includes a decision support to guide the user to the most suitable solution and enable adaptation to the user needs and demands with time as the emergency phase progresses.
The development and testing of the kits will happen in 2 phases:
- Concept and designs
- R&D and first testing of prototype kits

For all the kits concepts and designs will be developed with the following requirements:
For optimal development of the concepts and designs, it is necessary to have full insight in the required characteristics and the technical possibilities of kits to be used in emergency situations.
S(P)EEDKITS’ sanitation and water experts will be responsible for the development of the emergency facilities around water and sanitation.
